Fede Ring with White Enamel Forget Me Nots

Item No. 307

The two hands of this Victorian ring unclasp into two bands connected by hinge at the bottom. Fede rings have been popular for centuries, symbolizing both love and friendship. This ring has white forget me not flowers in enamel on both bands symbolizing fidelity and loyalty. This ring was clearly given to a loved one, possibly as a token of remembrance while one was away. The ring is stamped with a french hallmark of the eagles head and well as a maker's mark. Inside the ring, one band has the word Leopold engraved, while the other also has a word engraved, but it is hard to decipher. Size 8.5. Cannot be resized. Circa 1850s.
